Paradise Ridge Churches

The first church in Paradise was organized September 28, 1879. It was called the Union Congregational Church of Paradise. Worship services were held in Temperance Hall which was located on the southwest corner of Clark and Elliott Road, the location of Old Paradise in the 1860's then called Leonard's Mill.

In 1888 the church was renamed the First Congregational Church of Paradise. A new church building was dedicated near where the Paradise Library stands. On April 7, 1909 a fire destroyed the church. The church was rebuilt at the corner of Scottwood and Pearson Road and renamed Craig Memorial Congregational Church.

During the excavation and construction of the Paradise Library in 1975, the bell from the first church was exhumed. It is part of the monument and plaque in front of the library, dedicated in May 1987.
