Definitions of Recycling Symbols/Numbers on Plastic Containers

PETE Polyethylene Terephalate Ethylene Soft drink, juice, water,detergent, and cleaner bottles; cooking and peanut butter jars.	HDPE High Density Polyethylene Milk and water jugs, bleach bottles, detergent and shampoo bottles. Plastic bags and grocery bags, motor oil bottles, household cleaners and butter tubs.	PVC Polyvinyl Cloride Window cleaner, cooking oils, and detergent bottles; peanut butter jars and water jugs.
LDPE Low Density Polyethylene Plastic bags and grocery bags, dry cleaning bags and flexible film packaging; some bottles.	PP Polypropylene Caps, disks, syrup bottles, yogurt tubs, straws and file packaging.	PS Polystyrene Foam meat trays, egg cartons, plates, cutlery, carry-out containers and clear trays.
	Other Plastics Polycarbonate, Acrylic, ABS, Mixed Plastics Includes resins not mentioned or combinations of plastics.

California Refund Value (CRV) - As consumers we pay a CRV when we purchase beverages from a retailer and are reimbursed when we redeem the container at a buy-back recycling center. CRV materials include aluminum, glass, plastic, and bi-metal beverage containers. Look for the CRV logo on these container types.
