Amanda <leosgirl12334@hotmail.com> USA - Tue Mar 16 12:51:37 EST 2004 To Incoming Visitors of Paradise: We arrived in Paradise last August of 2003. I had just accepted a teaching postion in Chico Unified School District. We began staying at Lantern Inn located off of the Skyway. The owners Erik and Wendy Sjoberg really made us feel welcome and provided local information for us, as we were in the middle of closing escrow on our new home. Our stay lasted longer than we expected, because escrow was lengthened, but they made us feel as if we were right at home. It was a busy time with our 18 month old and living out of a suitcase for over 6 weeks, but they really made us feel welcomed to Paradise. I just want to tell all those who are in town who have guests that might need a place to stay or they may want to travel into our lovely Paradise area, that the Lantern Inn is a perfect Inn away from home. Craig & Donna Abbey Craig & Donna Abbey <dabbey@pvchico.org> Paradise, CA USA - Tue Mar 16 12:01:11 EST 2004 You lucky people! i lived in magalia around 1969 at age 9.it left such an impression that I can still see the scenery in my head as if it were yesterday. I lived directly across the street from the Magalia Community church old location (I hear now, moved and historical) but remember ringing the bell on Sunday. I also remember a swimming hole we went to almost everyday.then we called it little pearl. I don't remember the exact location, but know it was just a short hike down the mountain from our home. It is a great memory I treasure and was wondering if anyone knew of this place and maybe had some images they could e-mail me. It would be greatly appriciated and I hope to visit this summer and would buy you and your family dinner. I also had some friends Kim (male) and Kurt (male) not sure of the last name. I moved alot when I was young and have seen most of this country but no place ever came closer to paradise than Paradise. Thanks for the memories, Sandy. Tiffany Sofie <tiffanysofie@hotmail.com> Los Angeles, CA USA - Tue Oct 7 19:36:20 EDT 2003 I am moving to Sausalito, and have been looking on line for areas north of there one could drive to on weekends that would have snow and more of a winter climate. This isn't about winter sports so much as being in a forested area with cold weather, and sometimes snow. After a lot of searching, this area seems like a possibility. I am hoping for as short a drive as possble so I can do this as often as possible. It's funny, but unless places are advertising skiing, it seems no one wants to claim or advertise cold weather and snow. All the info on line tends to be promoting mild winters, but I am in search of more serious winter weather, and some lodge(s) or small town environment for weekend retreats. I don't know California well, so would be grateful for all suggestions. Thank you-- Marian Marian <mfmatrician@yahoo.com> USA - Mon Oct 6 18:54:00 EDT 2003 I think that this is a very good website. However there needs to be more information on youth groups. Maube if teens could get to that information easier, than we wouldn't have to result to other ways of having fun or relaxing. The dog has to be 8 weeks or more to be spayed or neutered. With cats or kittens to adopted it is $15 & have to be spayed or neutered before going to the new owners. If the owners have a vet we will use there vet, They can pick up there new animal the next day at the vet, With the paper work, they fill out at the animal shelter when they adopt there animal. It has been something that has interested me ever since I had moved here in 1992. Although I do wish to know more about the other four Inn's and where they where located, besides the one in Sterling City. I would also like to have more information on the residing ghost named Charlie. I really hope to see that one day these beautiful remaining peices of history will be open to the public just for educational purposes. Not to where people can destroy the wonderfullness that it holds today. I think that our town should have more information on what we are really about and how we came that way! Diane <zenagirl@cvcca.com> CA USA - Sat Mar 15 19:15:50 EST 2003 This is regarding broadband incorperation in Paradise and Magalia. I am seventeen years old, and am becoming more and more dismayed about the lack of broadband services in Paradise and Magalia. I live in two homes, one in each town respectivly. Neither of which is capable of receiving broadband. I don't know what the deal is- is it because there is not a lot of demand for such a thing in my areas, or is it because this issue has yet to be brought up? I'm -sure- a lot of young people would agree with me that lack of broadband is unacceptable. I've checked out the stats, the climate looks great and the rainfall superb. However, I would like to know how to access the town ordinances; I'm a keen permaculturalist and would like to have chickens (say six fat bantam hens), maybe a dwarf goat or two or a minicow, and generally play happily with veggies and fruits in a cultivated ecology. How can I find out what the legalities are? While I'm at it, we're looking for a home. Half an acre up to 5 acres, with some kind of house, water and power. Any offers? Manoah was born in Ohio April 1819 and came to California October 1849. He ran various businesses, was a rancher and Postmaster. When the post office was established, the community was named after him, but somehow was spelled Pentz. Manoah died June 1882. More information about Pence/Pentz can be found in a copy of the Dogtown Territorial Quarterly, 1991 Winter Issue #8, in an article titled Manoah Pence of Pence's Ranch - Pentz P.O., written by Nick Becker. Vista Hosts <paradise@ontheridge.com> Paradise, CA USA - Wed Jul 17 17:35:14 EDT 2002 I have learned from a friend that visited the archives of the village PENTZ in Germany that several of its citizens migrated to America, specifically California. They mention the posibility of the citizens forming a settlement with the name of theit home village. In searching for this settlement I found the village of PENTZ on "MapQuest.com." That village no longer exists, but was at the end of what is now Pentz Road. If anyone has knowledge of this village and when it may have been settled and the name or names of the founders, I would appreciate hearing from them as they may be related to me.
